Case Study

Challenge:
Same client as Amidst the Woods. Re-route the entrance to the new bathroom so it’s attached to the master bedroom. Feature materials that offer neutrality with an interesting interplay of textures. Drop the shower ceiling such that it looks deliberate, not like an afterthought.

Solution:

We toyed with texture by adding an accent tile and filed tile that played well together: You can see the textured tile on the pony wall and behind the light; the plain filed tile appears in the shower and elsewhere.

Result:
The new spa successfully recreates the blend of textures and materials that had inspired the owner on travels to Japan. Running the “wood” tile along the floor, up the back wall, and returning on the dropped ceiling creates an inviting sense of visual flow and makes the space seem larger—an impression heightened by the large window and leafy view.
