Case Study
Challenge
Work with existing structural elements to transform a section of unfinished basement into a master bathroom that blends upscale elegance with rustic charm. Maintain access to the stairs without altering the cabin’s exterior.
Solution
When faced with obstacles, make them your friend. The existing log post became a guiding feature in the design, establishing a rustic end point for the wall separating the tub alcove and the shower.
To balance the owners’ taste for elegance with the overall bucolic presence of the cabin, we merged traditional elements—clawfoot tub, surface-mount sinks, old-fashioned faucets—with more refined features such as vibrant brushed bronze plumbing fixtures, hand-glazed tiles and trims, and cherry wood vanity cabinets.
Results
Mission accomplished: The new space is a welcoming, efficient, and roomy, with rich colors and textures that blend seamlessly to create an ambience of subtle elegance in a rustic setting. There’s ample storage for linens and a commodious walk-in closet adjacent to the bathroom/vanity area.
