Case Study
Challenge
Renovate and enlarge an awkward, angular bathroom to accommodate handicap accessibility while preserving the existing attic access and skylight.
Solution
Center a new, curbless shower system underneath the skylight, away from the attic access. Repurpose the existing walk-in closet space to enlarge the bathroom. Leave the water closet unchanged but position the new vanity underneath the attic access across from the shower.
Take advantage of the blank wall space by the door to hang a large painting that was already part of the owners’ collection, drawing on this piece of art to provide inspiration for the materials used in the remodel.
Results
This reimagined bathroom feels spacious, bright, and welcoming with a cohesive color scheme that ties everything together. Frameless glass enclosing the new shower admits light from the overhead skylight to the rest of the room and opens the space to its full dimensions.
No more awkward angles to navigate around. Instead, the bathroom now accommodates the natural, unimpeded movement required for effective handicap access. The curbless shower, including grab bars and a bench, completes this transformation.
