English Cottage Kitchen >>
Case Study
Challenge
This cramped kitchen needed an update that preserved its English Cottage charm while transforming it into a more open, accommodating, and functional workspace.
Solution
Expand the space by removing the wall between the kitchen and living room. Enlarge the island and center the cooktop on it to provide a more functional cooking area. Improve kitchen workflow by creating distinct zones for cooking, washing, and prepping.
Introduce a furniture-style wine and coffee bar that feels more like a hutch. Add an eating bar to the island. Keep the family canine from underfoot with a retractable dog gate.
Result
The remodeled kitchen feels like a breath of fresh country air. Standard white subway tile brightens and brings cohesion to the room while affording the wood stove and wine bar areas to feature separate tile designs. White beadboard on the walls invokes the traditional feel of the home.
The opened wall adds new dimension to the kitchen and provides additional counter space that can also serve as a buffet. A Cindy chair in the corner provides a comfy place to enjoy morning coffee and contemplate the day.
