Case Study

Challenge:
Challenges to adding a bathroom to this unfinished loft included: limited headroom clearance, flooring transition from the bathroom to the bedroom and stairwell, toilet privacy, closet space, and—importantly—preserving the existing windows’ sweeping forest view.

Solution:

We used creative space-saving measures like an 18-inch–deep vanity, versus the usual 21-inches, and centered this on the stair wall to clear headroom. To accommodate the reduced depth, we installed a wall-mount faucet and tucked the toilet in the back corner.

The minimalist shower enclosure and tub lend a feeling of openness. Large-format black tile anchors the room and pulls it all together.

Results:
The finished bathroom is breathtaking in its simplicity. Materials like natural walnut for the vanity and a light quartz countertop work to enhance the outdoor experience. The tile is a taupe with a greenish tinge, helping keep the bathroom neutral and the focus on the expansive treetop view.
